Jim NaugleFort Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle has found himself in a bit of a pickle. He's the mayor of one of the most gay-friendly cities in the U.S. yet he appears to have a problem with gay people.

The controversy started last month when Naugle, a Democrat, said the city needs to buy single-occupancy public toilets to "reduce homosexual sex in bathrooms." Naugle then opposed a plan to put a collection of gay and lesbian literature -- some including adult content -- in a public library. The library collection was approved anyway.

Were there some rash of "homosexual sex" in public bathrooms, or any other kind of sex in public bathrooms, I'd probably agree that something must be done to stop it. Not that I'm anti-sex or anything, but let's be honest...in public? Like public-public? Gimmie a break.

But that doesn't appear to be the case. Fort Lauderdale police report there have been four incidents of alleged male sex acts in public bathrooms since November 2005. Add to that a total of six reported hetero-sex acts in public....Fort Lauderdale suddenly doesn't sound like such a swingin' town after all.

So, what's this guy's point? The article mentions that he's a Democrat, which isn't surprising. Republicans have a difficult time getting elected in South Florida. If this guy is indeed a Democrat, he's one of the last of the Socially-Conservative Democrats.
