Bush Resubmits Six U.S. Appellate Court Nominees to Senate |

Nov. 15 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush resubmitted six appellate-court nominees, who earlier drew objections from Democrats, for Senate consideration in the waning days of the Republican majority.
The Senate returned the six appeals-court nominees to the president in late September when Congress recessed to campaign for midterm elections. The Democrats' takeover of the Senate in January by a 51-49 majority means they will have the power to block the nominees' confirmation.
Bush's decision to resubmit the six nominees was criticized by Vermont Democrat Patrick Leahy, who will chair the Judiciary Committee in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
``The president is choosing partisanship over progress and division over unity,'' Leahy said in a statement. ``The signal the president is sending by renominating these controversial candidates is regrettable.''
The panel's Republican chairman, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, said yesterday, ``It is obvious that they cannot move'' through the Senate before the Democrats take control. Specter made the comment when he confirmed reports that Bush intended to resubmit the six nominees.
