Citing concerns about financial management, Kentucky's state auditor's office says it will investigate Louisville's Housing and Family Services Department.
New of the audit comes less than a week after the housing department's director, Kimberly Bunton, resigned amid questions about more than $2,000 in low-income assistance her mother received from the city.
The housing department has been under scrutiny after The Courier-Journal of Louisville reported in June that the department has claimed, but not spent, millions in federal affordable housing grants over the past 13 years.
In a letter sent Monday to Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson, state Auditor Crit Luallen said the state has a responsibility to perform an independent audit.
